My First Reflection
Paragraph is a group of sentences that develops one
main idea or a topic. Every sentence works together and create an impression.
Paragraph only has one main idea. There is most important sentence in paragraph
is the topic sentence. There are three elements of a paragraph are topic
sentence, supporting sentence and concluding sentence.
1. Topic sentence is a sentence which introduces the topic
and states the main idea. It is located in the first sentence of the paragraph
because it will give an overview oh the sentence fo follow. A good topic
sentence must be able to :
inform
the reader of the subject that will be discussed in the paragraph, control the
idea or attitude about and to limit the topic.
2. Supporting sentences
is sentences which develop
the main idea of the topic sentence. The supporting sentences are written after
the topic sentence, so they can give specific and detail information of the
topic sentence and reader can understand about the purpose of the paragraph.
3. Concluding sentence, it is the summarizes the main idea of the
topic sentence. It shows the big and the most important point the main idea of
the topic sentence.
All
of the elements of the paragraph have to have coherent thoughts that are
developed in order fro, one sentence to the next and the paragraph will be a
good paragraph.
There are seven types of paragraph
development:
- Narration
Narration is a piece of writing that tells
a story of an evennt or expirience. It is usually easy and fun to write. When
write a narration, usually we tell the story with a beginning, a middle, and an
end. In the narration reveals something of importance to you, includes all of
the major events of the story (introduction-climax-resolution), uses details to
bring the story to life and presents the events in a clear order, usually
according to when it happened.
- Exposition
Based on the source which I have already
read before, exposition is a paragraph which arrange the sentence based on the
importance or logical order. But rather similar with narrative and descriptive
paragraph.
- Definition
Definition paragraph is the introductory
sentence of the paragraph is definition sentence of the main idea of the topic.
When define the topic of the paragraph we may not use dictionary meaning. But
we must use world meaning to make the story to life and all readers able to
understand the term.
- Description
Description paragraph is a paragraph which
descripe about something (think about intersting people, favorite place you
have been. And think about an object you know a lot about). Description
paragraph writing uses sensory details (sensory detail that appeal to the five
senses: seeing, hearing, tasting, smelling, and feeling) to paint a mental
picture of a person, thing, place, or event. By description paragraph we can
inform a reader about something (place, event, object, subject), we can share
an experience, give a report (event report or journey report) and also we can
entertain a reader.
- Comparison
Comparison paragraph shows 2 information
about something in the same time by comparing both of the objects. Based on the
example of the source the paragraph campares between Lylod beach and O’Leno.
The paragraph compare the condition in lylod beach and O’leno point by point.
The first point which is compared between Lylod Beach and O’Leno is the
criteria of both of the place. The second point is about the condition of both
of the place and many more.
- Process Analysis
The paragraph exlpains and analyzes how or
show a the steps in a process. It usually uses transitinal signals first,
second, then, next, finally. According the example of the source the topic is
how to put up a particular brand of tent.
- Persuasion
Explaining and analyzing topic to try to
make others do something or to argue for an opinion. Persuasion paragraph can
persuade someone to change their mind to do something.
Warning !
I get trouble when I am understanding about
exposition paragraph. Because there are some criteia of the paragraph which are
same with description and narration paragraph. May be Miss Vita or you all guys
can give me some explanations and examples about this. I write the reflection according
my understanding after read the source.
